MS 65.  Literal transcription – misspellings are left intact, xxx denotes illegible word, italicized items are my own comments for clarification.  Please note that in some instances the letter “s” may have been replaced with the letter “f,” as was the custom at that time – TG.

This Indenture Made the thirteenth day of August one thousand seven hundred & seventy three Between Robert Lettis Hooper, Junior & Margaret his Wife of Trenton in the County of Hunterdon in the Province of New Jersey of the One part and Stacey Potts of the same Place of the other Part – Whereas Elizabeth Biles late of Trenton aforesaid, Deceased did by a Codicil to her Last Will & Testament Dated February 12th 1772 Give and Devise unto her said Daughter Margaret Hooper her Lotto of Land adjoining to Nathan Beaks as by the said Will & Codicil thereto annexed & Filed in the Register Office at Burlington will appear, which said Lott of Land was purchased with two other Lotts of Land by Samuel Biles & Elizabeth Biles aforesaid of John Bainbridge the younger as by the Deed Executed by the said John Bainbridge and Marey his Wife dated May 20th 1737 may appear, but the said Samuel Biles dying before a Division of the said Lotts were made and Benjamin Biles of Trenton aforesaid becoming Heir to the Estate of the said Samuel Biles, Deceased did with the said Elizabeth Biles, dec’d cause a Division of the said Lotts to be made and by certain Deeds of Release Dated the 16th July 1744 did Actually Release & forever Quit claim each to the other for their Respective shares & portions of the said three Lotts, but the Release to the said Elizabeth Biles being lost & not appearing the said Benjamin Biles by his Indenture of Release Dated the twelfth Day of August one thousand seven hundred & seventy three did Grant, Release & Confirm unto the said Robert Lettis Hooper, Junior, and Margaret his Wife their Heirs & Afsigns all that the said Lott or portion of Land divided as aforesaid situate lying and being in Trenton aforesaid adjoining to Land of Nathan Beaks Beginning at a Spanish Oak Tree marked for a Corner of said Beaks’s Land; thence by s’d Beakes Land South thirty nine Degrees West eight Chains and sixty Links to a Hickery Corner in the Line of Hezekiah Howels Land; thence by the said Howels Land South forty six Degrees and thirty Minutes East three Chains & sixty four Links to a Black Oak; thence by the said Howels & William Tuckers Land South twenty one Degrees West fourteen chains to a white Flint Stone; thence by Land of Stacey Potts South thirty seven Degrees & forty five Minutes West six Chains & eight Links to the Pennington Road; thence along said Road South thirty nine Degrees & thirty Minutes East seven Chains and seven Links to a Stone; thence North twenty one Degrees East thirty one Chains to the most Northerly Post of Nathan Beaks’s Gate for a Corner; thence by Said Beakes Land North forty nine Degrees & thirty Minutes West five Chains and forty Links to the place of Beginning containing fifteen Acres three quarters of an acre & twelve perches of Land Now This Indenture Witnefseth that the said Robert Lettis Hooper, Junior & Margaret his Wife for and in Consideration of the sum of One hundred and twenty six pounds and twelve shillings Current Money of New Jersey to them in Hand paid by the said Stacey Potts the Receipt thereof they do hereby confefs and acknowledge have Granted, Bargained & sold Conveyed & Confirmed & by these Presents doth Grant, Bargain, Sell, Enfeoff, Convey & Confirm unto the said Stacey Potts all and every part of the above Described Lott of Land Bounded as afores’d Together with all and singular the Rights, Members, Appurtenances & previlidges whatsoever unto the said Lott of Land in any wise appurtaining or belonging To have & to hold the hereby Granted Premifses and every part thereof unto him the said Stacey Potts to the only use, Benefitt and Behoof of him the said Stacey Potts his Heirs and Afsigns for ever, In Witnefs whereof the said Robert Lettis Hooper & Margaret his Wife have hereunto interchangeably set their Hands and Seals the Day year first above written.

Hunterdon Lot 

            Personally appeared before me Isaac Smith one of his Majesty’s Judges in and for said County, the above written Robert Lettis Hooper, Jun’r and Margaret Hooper his Wife and Acknowledged this Indenture to be their act and Deed and Desired as such it might be Recorded – The said Margaret being xxx (looks like secretly, but probably should be separately) & apart Examined and thereunto volontarily Consenting Witnefs my Hand this fourteenth Day of August 1773-
